Solo indie developer ElSchorscho has released a new trailer for Drunk Woodcutter, a first-person physics-based woodsplitting sim. The game is planned to launch on Steam in Q4 2026.
In Drunk Woodcutter, players swing a physics-driven axe to split logs, sell the firewood for cash, and spend it on an escalating upgrade tree of harder wood types, stronger axes, and questionable liquor. In a slapstick risk-reward system, drinking alcohol temporarily boosts chopping power, but going too far causes the woodcutter to pass out. Miss the log and the axe may find a much worse target instead.
The new trailer offers a fast-paced look at Drunk Woodcutter’s slapstick chopping, drinking, and upgrading loop, including the jump from a rusty starter axe to the thunderous Lightning Axe. The final upgrade? A rubber chicken.
“I split my own firewood in real life, and I love how every impact feels and sounds a little different,” said ElSchorscho. “I wanted to bring that physical satisfaction into a game, then push it into gloriously stupid territory.”
Key features:
- Physics-based chopping – One button, one swing. Satisfying wood-splitting with real momentum.
- No fail state – Chop wood at your own pace, with no pressure, timers, or run-ending penalties. It is after 5 pm, after all.
- Drunkenness as a mechanic – Alcohol compensates for a weak axe, but one sip too many causes you to pass out. Not ideal, but it is hardly the worst decision being made here.
- Upgrades that feel different – Harder wood types, more powerful axes, absurd joke weapons, stronger drinks, bigger payouts, and ridiculous skill upgrades like “Iron Liver”.
- Short and sweet – Designed for 1-3 hours of play, with no resets or prestige mechanics.
- Streamer-friendly soundtrack – Original recordings of public domain folk tunes. Monetized videos and streaming are fully permitted.
