Solo developer Kohl Meek has announced that HELLEVATORS, a fast-paced bullet hell action-roguelike set in Hell’s infernal public transit system, will be playable for the first time when its free demo launches on June 8th as part of Steam’s Bullet Fest which runs June 8th through June 15th. The full game is slated for release in Q4 2026.
HELLEVATORS puts players in the scuffed shoes of Cate, a recently deceased soul accidentally sent to Hell who has only one way out – ride the elevators all the way to the top. Navigating the most cursed part of Hell, its transportation system, demands fluid, acrobatic movement. Jump wall to wall, bounce off enemy heads, dash and slide through relentless waves of hellish commuters. Enter a flow state and the chaos becomes second nature. Fail to keep up, though, and Hell’s legion will make sure you know it.
Between floors, players can chat with Hell’s bizarre cast of inhabitants, complete their quests for rewards, and build an arsenal from hundreds of outlandish items including night vision goggles, fedoras, monkey’s paws, and even stranger things lurking in the dumpsters. Every run opens new possibilities, and every death only makes the next build more inventive. Steam’s Bullet Fest is the perfect setting for HELLEVATORS’ debut, being a showcase for one of indie gaming’s most gleefully chaotic new entrants in a genre built for exactly this kind of relentless, frenetic energy.
Key features of HELLEVATORS include:
- Fluid, Frenetic Movement: Survival in a Hellevator demands agility. Dash, slide, jump wall to wall, and bounce off enemy heads to build unstoppable momentum. Enter a flow state and Hell’s legion won’t stand a chance.
- Hundreds of Bizarre Items and Builds: Ransack dumpsters, complete quests, and make deals with devils to assemble an arsenal of outlandish knick-knacks and weapons. Craft a build that plays exactly the way you want or let the monkey’s paw decide.
- A Cast of Hellish Characters: Not everyone in Hell wants your soul. Chat with Hell’s strangest inhabitants through branching dialogue, learn their stories, and complete their quests for rewards. Some of them might even help you get out.
- Roguelike Depth and Replayability: Every death is a lesson. Spend the souls you’ve amassed, discover new item combinations, and return to Hell’s transit network armed with a radically different build each time.
- Vibrant, Cartoony Art Style: Hell has never looked so colourful. HELLEVATORS’ bold, cartoony visual style brings its cast of demons, lost souls, and elevator shafts to vivid, chaotic life.
The HELLEVATORS demo is available free on Steam from June 8th through June 15th as part of Steam’s Bullet Fest. The full game is planned for release in Q4 2026. Players can wishlist HELLEVATORS on Steam now.
